SKS Papers Accepted for I/ITSEC 2014

SKS is proud to announce that two papers co-authored by Dr. Mike Prevou  and Dr. Holly Baxter have been accepted for the 2014 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education (I/ITSEC) conference in Orlando, FL.
Developing the Human Dimension: Current Practices and Future Methods (with Dr. Laurie Waisel) focuses on achieve improved learning outcomes using an adult learning model that emphasizes Critical Moment Strategy and experiential learning as described in Army Learning Model (ALM) 2015.  The results — an Experiential Learning Model that addresses addresses different learning styles and turns traditional classroom methodologies upside down!

Position Opening: Military Historian/Staff Ride Facilitator

June 2014 — SKS is looking for a military analyst with a love of military history to conduct Staff Rides for U.S. Army leaders. Requires experience developing and presenting curriculum, and creating job aids and workbooks. Must be a graduate of Command and General Staff College or equivalent and have a Bachelor’s degree in History or related subject; Master’s degree preferred. Also prefer Army instructor qualification and previous Staff Ride experience within the past three years. Position is located in Leavenworth, Kansas, and requires travel up to 30% of the time.

SKS and the Kansas City Startup Village

May 2014 – In April, SKS President Mike Prevou visited the Kansas City Startup Village to talk with entrepreneurs about collaboration, community and business opportunities.

The Kansas City Startup Village (#KCSV) is an entrepreneur-led, organic, grassroots initiative helping Kansas City entrepreneurs and startup companies to grow their businesses.  While each startup is enabled by the Kansas City Google Fiber, entrepreneur he talked with said the community atmosphere to collaborate, learn, and grow was far more important than the speed of the internet connection.  SKS provides collaboration coaching for organizations to maximize the benefit from networking and shared knowledge.

SKS Revisits Gettysburg

April 2014 —   In April 2014, Team SKS historians Florian Waitl, Gary Linhart, and Bill Darley led a 3-day staff ride for International Officers from the Command and General Staff College to the site of the Battle of Gettysburg. Often described as the turning point of the Civil War, the July 1-3, 1863 battle, serves as the backdrop for lessons in history, critical thinking, unit tactics, and leadership for mid-grade Army leaders.

Dr. Mike Prevou Helps Team Rubicon

January 2014—SKS’s Mike Prevou works with the disaster response veteran organization Team Rubicon at their Annual Leadership Conference in Los Angeles, California. Mike’s research focus for 2014 is exploring how KM is applied in humanitarian relief operations.

Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.

SKS Presenting at KM World 2013

November 2013—SKS’s co-founders, Holly Baxter and Mike Prevou, were invited to give workshops at KM World 2013 in Washington, D.C. Holly’s workshop is entitled Methods for Transferring Specialized Knowledge to Accelerate the Expertise Development Cycle. Mike’s presentation is entitled Rethinking Knowledge Management. Both workshops will be on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

Dr. Holly Baxter Presenting at I/ITSEC and Receives Honorable Mention for Best Paper

November 2013—SKS is pleased to announce that Holly Baxter not only had a paper accepted at the 2013 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), but it also earned an Honorable Mention for Best Paper! Her paper, entitled “Transferring Specialized Knowledge: Accelerating the Expertise Development Cycle,” was among the top three papers accepted.

SKS Goes “Down Under” to Present at KM Australia

July 2013—Dr. Mike Prevou is giving both a presentation and a workshop at the 2013 KM Australia Conference in Sydney. His presentation, Rethinking Knowledge Management, outlines the Knowledge Environment and the human side of knowledge management as a new way to look at the KM domain. He is also conducting a workshop, Identifying and Capturing Expertise: How to Elicit the Knowledge of Experts, with Patricia Eng, a Senior Advisor for Knowledge Management with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
